How to Mount a Wireless Mic Pack on a Bra Strap

How to Mount a Wireless Mic Pack on a Bra Strap

Yes, a bra strap can carry a pack. Worn at the back, on the broadest part of the strap, a properly fitted bra will hold it without drooping.

It is still not the first choice. Fitting a pack to a bra means someone working close to the wearer's skin with clothing in the way. Plenty of presenters will say no to that. They should not have to explain why, and the crew should not have to talk them round.

A pack on a bra sits against the wearer's back, and sweat builds up on a long day.

That is why MagnetMate BodyGrip and BodyMax exist. Belt-free, no pouch, and no unnecessary contact with the talent. The pack stays where the crew puts it.

Where a bra strap works, and where it doesn't

A bra strap can work in one place: the back of the bra, on the broadest section of strap near the back band, on a bra that fits properly and keeps its shape.

It does not work on:

  • Front straps and narrow sections.
  • Narrow, stretched, lace, decorative or detachable straps.
  • A bra that has stretched, lost its shape or does not fit well.
  • Anywhere the clip would sit on the adjuster, a fastening or an underwire.

Skin and sweat

A pack on a bra sits against the skin. In a hot venue or on a long day, sweat and moisture build up under the pack and around the clip.

Plan for it before the show. If the room is hot or the show is long, choose another position if sweat is likely. Wipe the pack and clip down after each use, and follow the transmitter maker's guidance on moisture.

Ask first, and make it easy to say no

Agree on placement before anyone touches the strap. Explain the options and offer a private space. If the presenter prefers, they can fit the pack herself: demonstrate on a spare piece of fabric, then hand over the pack.

Ask before each adjustment that involves clothing or contact. A yes earlier does not cover the next step. They can change thier mind at any time, and a hesitation maybe is a no.

Choose the purpose-built mount

Both products are designed for structured clothing and single-layer fabric, not bra straps.

MagnetMate BodyGrip is for everyday presentation work. It takes standard wireless transmitters up to 50mm wide. Two rare-earth magnets per side. Mounts and removes in seconds with no tools.

MagnetMate BodyMax is for heavier packs: broadcast transmitters and IEM body packs. Three rare-earth magnets per side plus a base magnet, for demanding presentations.

Both are belt-free and need no pouch. Check the fit with your specific pack and outfit before the show.

If you still choose a bra strap

Use it only if the wearer is comfortable with it, the pack sits at the back, and the strap passes these checks.

  • The strap is broad and firmly supported, near where it joins the back band.
  • The clip seats fully without stretching or twisting the fabric.
  • The bra fits properly, so the pack does not droop when they sit, stand or reach.
  • Never load an adjuster, a fastening or an underwire.
  • Check for sharp clip edges, snagging and pressure marks before fitting. Test on an inconspicuous area first. Borrowed or delicate garments need wardrobe approval. No pins, no adhesive.
  • Follow the transmitter maker's antenna guidance. Do not fold or trap the antenna against the pack, skin, underwire or metal. Leave a small slack loop in the mic cable so reaching does not pull the connector.
  • Have them sit, stand, turn and make the movements the show needs. Run an RF walk test in the full outfit. A secure clip does not prove reception.
  • Recheck after every costume change. Agree how they will ask for help or take the pack off.

When to use another position

Choose a different mount if the strap fails any check above, if there is pinching or discomfort, if the pack slips during movement tests, or if sweat is likely. A transmitter pouch, a belt, or a wardrobe-approved pocket all work. More holding force does not fix a strap that is wrong for the job.

Do not use a magnetic mount where a medical device's instructions prohibit magnets, or where the required separation cannot be kept. Pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators and insulin pumps are the ones to check first. If you are unsure, use a non-magnetic option and get device-specific advice.

FAQ

Can you attach a wireless mic pack to a bra strap? Yes, at the back of the bra, on the broadest part of the strap, if the bra fits properly and the clip seats without stretching the fabric. Ask the wearer first, and use another position if she is not comfortable.

Is a bra strap a good place for a mic pack? Sometimes. At the back of a well-fitted bra, it can hold. Front straps, narrow or stretched straps, and a bra that no longer fits will not. Skin contact and sweat are also a factor on long or hot shows.

What is the best alternative to a bra strap? For everyday presentation work, the MagnetMate BodyGrip. It is belt-free, designed for structured clothing and single-layer fabric, and takes standard wireless transmitters up to 50mm wide. For heavier packs and IEM packs, use the MagnetMate BodyMax.

Does the wearer have to agree to a bra strap mount? Yes. Explain the options and ask before any adjustment involving clothing or contact. She can change her mind at any time.

Can a magnetic mount be used with a medical device? Check the device's instructions first. Magnets can interfere with pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators and insulin pumps. If you are unsure, use a non-magnetic option and get device-specific advice.
